"Great Hotel!"

The Magna Grecia Hotel was simply wonderful. We stayed for 8 nights in January. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. We needed a triple room so we had to be on the back side of the hotel without the view of the Acropolis, but the room was very nice with extremely comfortable beds! We made good use of the top floor breakfast room with balcony. This room has a lovely view of the Acropolis. We sat out there practically every night enjoying a glass of wine and the spectacular view.

The hotel is in the best location in Athens - right between Syntagma Square and Monastiraki Square - with good access to the Metro, shopping and great restaurants. The hotel recommended a wonderful restaurant also - Psara's - not to be missed! Some of the reviews mention the chiming of the bells of the cathedral across the street. This was not a problem for us.

"Location is gorgeous!!"

The rooms are very spacey with antique furniture, smooth light and all comforts! I have never slept in a more comfortable bed as the one in Magna Grecia hotel!Toilet amenities and bathrobes can easily fulfil all needs! The hotel offers a rich breakfast with a total view to Acropolis. The location is gorgeous!! In the heart of Athens centre like Ermou, Syntagma, Omomoia, Plaka! The underground is just a few steps away from the hotel; The owners Mister Savvas & Stelios Ioannides (father & son) are very nice people and they have a high sense of an excellent service.

"Not a 4 star hotel"

+ The staff was very friendly and as I was checking in and out the same day, they allow me to take the breakfast with no charge. The rooms are cosy and nicely decorated. The view on the Acropolis from the restaurant is great.
- This hotel is rated as a 4 stars. Greek standards are not French ones and according to the latest I would say it is more a 2**+ or a 3*-. The room was very small. Also, a 4* hotel would not serve Tang orange juice for breakfast!

"The best location"

The hotel was very well placed, the Acropolis could be seen from the balcony of our room, and again was just a short walk away. All in all, it is ideally placed for the major attractions and tourist areas. The room itself was large (deluxe room), with a very comfortable bed and good pillows. We highly recommend this hotel to anyone that wants to stay in the vicinity of the Plaka.

"Okay place to stay"

We stayed here for only 1 night. Our room was okay, but the view was excellent. The staff were also very friendly and the breakfast was good. The one negative aspect was that the hotel is right beside a church and the bells in the moring were quite loud. Otherwise is was an okay place to stay.

"Great location, great hotel....if you play it safe."

We booked through a third party website and luckily I emailed the hotel directly several weeks prior to confirm the booking. First reply was that they did not have our reservation (two couples two rooms). Themn I copied in the confirmation from the other web site and aha, they found it and all was fine.
However, during our stay there, another group of people were arguing in the lobby with the management...same issue.... My guess is that they are not managing the availability with these other sites very well and finding themselves overbooked, then blame the 3rd party sites.
Anyway....make sure you request and perhaps get email confirmation of a front of hotel, balcony room. Huge and beautiful, overlooking the acropolis.

Bfast was great, service was great.

"wonderful way to see Athens"

We loved it. My husband and I spent 2 nights here before we headed to Santorini on our honeymoon. I made the reservations over the phone (which was difficult) after reading and researching here on Trip Advisor.
We flew in to Athens airport and took the subway to Syntagma square which was only blocks away from Magna Grecia! It was such an inexpensive way to travel, we talked to others who took a taxi and spent $60 one way.
We had requested a room with acropolis view and it was perfect. No problems whatsoever. The view was amazing as was the room. It felt like we were in Greece, which is what we wanted, not a westernized hotel. It was unique in its design and had a bed and breakfast kind of feel. We kept the balcony doors open day and night the first night we were there, although night two we closed the doors because the church bell tower that went off every hour did interupt our sleep. (but once we closed the doors it did not seem to bother either of us)
The rooftop balcony was wonderful and both nights we were there we bought cheese and crackers (beer/liquor too!!) and enjoyed what an amazing view we were experiencing, the Acropolis is so neat at night when it is all lit up.
We never needed a taxi for anything. We were right in the middle of the Plaka District which was the perfect central location to everything we wanted to see. We walked to The Temple of Zeus, The Parliament, lots of great shopping, & the Acropolis. It was perfect. We were even able to see The Magna Grecia from atop the Acropolis.
Starbucks is across the street which was nice in the morning. The breakfast was ok, we are not into warm milk or OJ, but we had to get used to this everywhere we went.
I would recommend this to anyone traveling through Athens, it will be such a great memory from our honeymoon.

"Great location, great beds!"

We stayed at the Magna Grecia hotel for just one night after our honeymoon on the islands before going home. After all the hotels we stayed at (some good, some very good), Magna Grecia finally offered us what we longed for during the two weeks - a comfortable bed! The hotel is equipped with ecological mattresses which are so soft and comfy! It's just the right thing for any tourist after 2 weeks of "concrete" mattresses! Overall, the hotel is very nice. Reasonably priced and in a great location just off the Ermou street where all the shops are. You can walk or take a metro in the direction of Omonia sq. where you find big shopping centers as well as places to eat and things to see (like Syntagma or Kolonaki). The Plaka district itself is great for exploring. For those who are longing for something other than greek food, there are TGI Fridays just off of Kolonaki and a Starbucks right across the street from the hotel! We had the room with Acropolis view and it was very nice, especially at night. It is a cozy little hotel in a 100+ years old mansion overlooking the Mitropoleos sq and the Cathedral. Very good value.

Plaka Area

As soon as you start walking around Plaka's stone-paved, narrow streets, you will have the feeling that you are travelling back in time. This is Athens' oldest and, thanks to the restoration efforts which went into its buildings in recent years, most picturesque neighbourhood. You will be delighted by the beauty of the neo-classical colours of its houses, their architecture, their lovingly tended little gardens, the elegance, and the total atmosphere of the area. In Plaka, even the air is different; lighter, clearer, scented, like a gift from the gods. More Plaka
