"Bit
overpriced for its quality and service"
I have to disagree with the super exciting previous reviews.
The hotel is a bit overpriced for its quality and service.
The hotel is probably good for the tourist, I was there on business
and had some problems - the TV in the bar was turned off most
of the time and there was no other public TV. Internet is excpensive
and pretty basic. The gym is very small and essential. The swimming
pool on the roof is nice but the water was so cold (in October).
One of the most disappointing aspects was the breakfast, the
selection, both quality and quantity, was relatively limited
compared with some other 5 star hotels I have been to, you have
to walk down some stairs to go to the buffet
The furniture was also nothing outstanding, quite good, but
this is not the Grand Bretagne.
I agree that the location is very good for the shopaholics,
but it is also quite far from the airport, on a hill. |

"Never
Enough!!!"
Travelling to Athens is something very familiar to me because
of my job. Staying at St. George Lycabettus though is always
a new experience for me..! From the moment I enter the hotel
it feels like home. The staff is very friendly and professional.
Because of the fact that I am a regular guest they do not take
me for granted. They put an effort on thanking me by being a
regular guest, by giving me amenities into my room, by knowing
and using my surname and by knowing my preferences. If I ask
something during my visit I will find it there the next time
I arrive! The rooms are not very big, normal European size but
the decoration is fantastic and the view if you have an Acropolis
or Lycabettus view room, unique. The internal rooms do not have
view but they are nice and quiet. The pool and the spa are great,
definately visit them, athough the pool is open air so it is
not open during winter, but if you want a jacuzzi go to the
spa. It is great. There is a special lighting for chromatotherapy!!
I travel alone so eating at the hotel is very convenient for
me. The food is so delicious though and the staff at the restaurants
is great so even if I have a choice of going somewhere else,
I do prefer to have my dinner there. Stayng at St. George Lycabettus
is never enough! |

"Stay
on the fifth floor!"
Okay, so the walls were a bit thin, the room was a bit small,
and I really hate double beds that are really two singles pushed
together ... but who cares when you get such a spectacular view
from your room??!!
I
loved this hotel because the view of the Acropolis and the
rest of the city was incredible. During the day it's great,
but at night when the Acropolis is lit up, it's hard to take
your eyes off it! We stayed in room 507.
A
week earlier I stayed in a room without a view at the same
hotel and I still liked it. It was modern and I especially
liked the multi-jet shower! Funnily enough there was a real
double bed in that room ... so it seems not all rooms just
have two singles pushed together. |

"A
Spectacular View of the Acropolis from a Great Hotel"
Our first "retirement" vacation started off in Athens
at the St. George, beautifully located on Lycabettus Hill, Kolonaki
District, a very upscale area with great shops, many outdoor
restaurants (pricy) and a steep walk back to the hotel....good
for your personal fitness. Overall the staff were absolutely
great from reception on but for one problem referenced below.
When I struggled with the computer in the bar area help was
available immediately. Help with touris information was always
available. Taxis arrived on time with hotel assistance ready
at the go.
The
view at breakfast (included with our reservation) of the Acropolis
was absolutely a top 3 highlite of our entire Greek holiday.
The buffet is a standard European, slightly upscale breakfast.
The pool area on the roof is fine (no hot spa) with limited
views of the Acropolis.
Don't
accept a 5th floor room if a party/celebration/wedding is
planned on th 6th floor during your stay. While we were there
a "celebration of the full moon" started at midnite
and didn't end until 4:00 a.m. Unfortunately we celebrated
with them and got no sleep. Little concern but a meek apology
from the front lobby staff in the morning.
We
didn't eat in the hotel restaurant as we found the Plaka area
had far more character, fabulous restaurants, and lots of
Greek energy. Don't miss it...and if you want an even better
view of the Acropolis and Athens at night take the tramway/funiculaire,
a very short walk near the hotel to the top of Lycabettus
Hill. With another night in Athens we would have had dinner
there, instead having a drink overlooking the city during
sunset was another fabulous moment in Athens.
Overall
our stay at the St. George Lycabettus was a great start to
our 16 day visit to Athens and the Islands. |

"Just
okay..."
We stayed at the St. George last summer for 2 nights. The temperature
in Athens was about 110 F. Our air conditioning was a bit spotty,
but we got by. We befriended a young couple who was there on
their honeymoon. Their air conditioning was broken for their
entire stay. The management was not at all helpful. The hotel
is quite out of the way. It's a pretty spot, but we had trouble
finding cabs to take us back up the hill to the hotel. And when
it's 110 F it's not a fun climb! |

Plaka
Area |
| |
As
soon as you start walking around Plaka's stone-paved, narrow streets,
you will have the feeling that you are travelling back in time. This is
Athens' oldest and, thanks to the restoration efforts which went into
its buildings in recent years, most picturesque neighbourhood. You will
be delighted by the beauty of the neo-classical colours of its houses,
their architecture, their lovingly tended little gardens, the elegance,
and the total atmosphere of the area. In Plaka, even the air is different;
lighter, clearer, scented, like a gift from the gods. More
